Representative Jonathan Jackson has fought relentlessly for social, economic, and racial justice for his entire career. As a lifelong Chicagoan, he’s deeply committed to improving the quality of life in his community and delivering results for everyday Illinoisans by advancing innovative approaches to reduce crime and build a safer future for the next generation.

As a community leader, Representative Jackson has gathered with shooting victims and their families in unity and prayer too many times, and he knows that we can only protect our cities and towns from harm if politicians find the courage to act on this life or death issue. He understands that when people who seek to hurt themselves or others have the same weaponry as law enforcement, everyone is at a higher risk for harm—and in Congress, he has supported measures to implement background checks on all gun sales, ban the sale of assault weapons, and close dangerous loopholes in our laws that lead to preventable deaths. Representative Jackson also sponsored the Blair Holt Firearm Owner Licensing and Record of Sale Act, a bill named after Blair Holt, a junior at Julian High School in Chicago who was killed on a public bus on his way home from school when he used his body to shield another passenger from gunfire. This bill would significantly ramp up firearm licensing procedures to make sure that prohibited purchasers can’t slip through the cracks and obtain dangerous weapons.

If reelected, Representative Jackson will continue to be the champion that the people of Chicago have always known him to be. He will fight with every ounce of his being to address the scourges of gun trafficking and everyday community violence throughout northeastern Illinois. With the radical agenda of the gun lobby threatening all Americans, we need champions like Representative Jonathan Jackson in power who will never tire until we end this country’s gun violence epidemic once and for all.
