Candidate
Laura Friedman
US House
California
— 30th District Democrat
Open Seat2024
As a former city council member, mayor, and current member of California’s Assembly, Assemblywoman Laura Friedman has always put the people of the people she serves first. Throughout her career, she’s worked to tackle the most important issues facing her constituents head on and deliver real results on some of the most pressing crises of the day—including America’s gun violence epidemic.
Assemblywoman Freidman’s leadership on gun safety stretches back all the way to her time on the Glendale City Council, where she cast the deciding vote to ban the carrying or displaying of guns on city property. This decision had very real impacts on her community, as it stopped the long-running Glendale Gun Show from being held at the Glendale Civic Center, which is across the street from a community college and down the block from an elementary school. However, Assemblywoman Friedman’s advocacy didn’t stop there—in Sacramento, she’s championed legislation to require handguns to be equipped with microstamping technology before they can be sold or transferred, address the lack of safe firearm storage, and establish a tax on licensed firearms dealers, firearms manufacturers, and ammunition vendors to fund programs that address the causes and harms of gun violence. She’ll continue this important work in Congress, where, if elected, she’ll fight to expand background checks to all gun sales, work to implement lifesaving red flag laws, and stand up for measures that will disarm domestic abusers and those who pose a threat to themselves or others.
It’s clear that Assemblywoman Laura Friedman will always stand up for the most vulnerable among us and be a strong voice for gun safety in Washington DC. Southern Californians must send her to Capitol Hill this November.
