Representative Lucy McBath has said that the most important title she will ever hold is “mom” to her son, Jordan Davis—who was shot and killed at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida in 2012 by a man objecting to the music Jordan was playing in his car. After her son’s murder, Representative McBath promised Jordan that she would do everything in her power to keep her community safe and to prevent her family’s tragedy from reaching any other. Like our founder, former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, Representative McBath turned her personal tragedy into a mission for action and change—first by traveling throughout the country to rally activists, lawmakers, and most importantly fellow moms to pass comprehensive gun safety laws, and then by winning a seat in Congress in 2018. 

In office, Representative McBath has made passing solutions to help our children and families a top priority. In addition to leading the charge to pass universal background checks, ban assault weapons, and fund vital community violence intervention programs, she helped pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act in 2022—the first major gun safety legislation signed into law in nearly 30 years. She has also introduced important legislation like the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act, which would allow families and law enforcement to petition federal courts to remove weapons from individuals who pose a risk to themselves or others. 

Georgia Republicans, who view Representative McBath’s efforts on this issue as a threat, are attempting to redraw district lines to bar the congresswoman from winning reelection once again. But this mom on a mission won’t let anything stand in her way, and we’re ready to stand shoulder to shoulder with Representative Lucy McBath as she fights to return to Washington DC. Now more than ever, we need to reelect gun violence prevention champions like her to keep all of our children safe.
