Delegate Marcus Simon’s career has always been defined by service to others. As an officer in the US Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, he provided legal support to the Emergency Operations Command Center on Ft. McNair in the days following the September 11 attack on the Pentagon. Now, he’s continuing to serve his community by working to pass meaningful gun safety laws in Richmond. Delegate Simon was the first Virginia legislator to champion legislation to ban the 3D printing of guns and to prohibit the purchase, sale, or transport of dangerous ghost guns. In office, he has also continuously worked to protect Virginia’s children from the dangers of unsecured firearms—even authoring legislation that would require firearms to be stored unloaded and locked in a compartment, away from all ammunition, when any minor under 18 is present in the home. Delegate Simon isn’t afraid to stand up to the gun lobby, and he’s making his stances on this issue crystal clear by working alongside local advocates to sponsor legislation to create a gun violence prevention vanity license plate in Virginia. With rates of gun violence spiking to record highs across the country, it’s imperative that gun safety champions with the courage to act reclaim state legislative chambers like the Virginia House of Delegates—and we can ensure that this progress is possible by reelecting dedicated leaders in the fight for a safer future like Delegate Marcus Simon.
