Congresswoman Susan Wild has an unmatched record of public service and has always put the needs of her community first. After serving as the first female solicitor of the City of Allentown, Representative Wild made history in 2018 by flipping the Republican-controlled Seventh Congressional District blue. In doing so, she also became the first woman to represent the Lehigh Valley in Congress and the first Jewish federally elected official in Pennsylvania history. Congresswoman Wild comes from a military family and in representing a district with a large number of gun owners, she knows that supporting strong gun safety laws goes hand in hand with respecting the constitutional right of citizens to bear arms.
In defeating an NRA-backed opponent to take her seat at the table, Congresswoman Wild made her deep passion for ending gun violence apparent from the start. In office she has stood up for her constituents’ safety and supported countless lifesaving bills and resolutions, including the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, which would expand background checks to all gun sales and transfers. Congresswoman Wild has also worked diligently to pass legislation to close the “Charleston Loophole,” which allows the FBI just three days to perform a background check before a gun dealer can proceed with a sale. In 2022, Representative Wild was proud to support the first major gun safety legislation signed in nearly 30 years, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, but she recognizes that there’s much more work to be done. As a member of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, she’s committed to continuing to reach across the aisle to end the scourge of gun violence in our communities once and for all.
Pennsylvania has played a key role in determining which party controls the House majority in cycle after cycle, and 2024 is no different. With so much on the line this fall, it’s incumbent on all of us to keep Representative Susan Wild’s voice in Washington DC and regain our gun safety majority.
