Release: Captain Mark Kelly Statement on One-year Anniversary of Aurora Massacre
Captain Mark Kelly, co-founder of Americans for Responsible Solutions, issued the following statement today in advance of the first anniversary tomorrow of the Aurora shooting:
“Tomorrow’s anniversary is the worst kind to acknowledge. Gabby and I know that, most days, the pain probably feels as raw as it did 12 months ago. We’re sorry that Coloradans experienced firsthand the random, merciless nature of a mass shooting. I think we all wish we could go back in time, at least to the day before: for Aurora, July 19; for Tucson, January 7. But none of us can reclaim the lives we had. Instead, we can — and will — stand together with Aurorans. We applaud Colorado’s leadership for passing legislation to keep guns away from those who shouldn’t have them, and we vow to keep fighting for responsible ways to reduce gun violence. It’s the best way we can think of to honor the lives destroyed in last year’s shooting.”
