VIDEO: Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Skydives to Mark Third Year of Recovery

Yesterday, three years since the tragic January 8, 2011 Tucson shooting, former Congresswoman and Founder of Americans for Responsible Solutions Gabrielle went skydiving for the first time since being shot in the head at point-blank range. Giffords jumped with her friend and former Navy SEAL Jimmy Hatch. After Hatch sustained serious injuries in combat in Afghanistan, Giffords helped him through his recovery and, once he was able, they skydived together. Following the Tucson shooting, Hatch visited and stood by Giffords as she began her recovery. Yesterday, with recent progress in Giffords’ recovery making it possible, they skydived together again.

“For Gabby, this jump is about overcoming challenges and celebrating life with her friend and inspiration, Jimmy Hatch,” said Pia Carusone, Executive Director of Americans for Responsible Solutions and Giffords’ former Chief of Staff. “Gabby is proud to have accomplished something she hasn’t done since the shooting and is working every day to continue both her recovery and her fight to make our communities safer while protecting our Second Amendment rights.”
