Statement: Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords & Captain Mark Kelly Respond to Presidential Address

February 28, 2017– Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and retired Navy combat veteran and NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly, the Co-Founders of Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS), issued the below statement following tonight’s presidential address:

“Tonight, President Trump called on Congress to break the cycle of violence in our cities and support our men and women in law enforcement. To do this, the Trump Administration should focus on closing the gaping loopholes in our nation’s gun laws, rather than following the lead of the Washington gun lobby, who want to make it harder for law enforcement to do their jobs by deregulating silencers, mandating national concealed carry and eliminating gun-free school zones. The Trump Administration should also give law enforcement the financial resources they need to keep our communities safe and eliminate the dangerous policy riders that hinder their ability to protect public safety. We urge Congress and President Trump to reject these extreme proposals that pose a serious threat to law enforcement and the American public.”
