ARS Congratulates Ralph Northam On Virginia Gubernatorial Primary Victory

June 13, 2017 – Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband Captain Mark Kelly, issued the following statement congratulating Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam on his gubernatorial primary victory.

“We congratulate Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam on his victory tonight. Virginia’s next governor will play an important role in combatting gun violence and advancing solutions to make communities safer. Every year, over 30,000 Americans are killed by a gun. Virginia has not been immune to this deadly crisis: somebody is killed with a gun in Virginia every 10 hours. “Throughout the primary, both Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam and former Congressman Tom Perriello have made gun violence prevention a central issue in their campaigns, but Ralph Northam made his long-standing commitment to the issue a hallmark of his campaign. Just a few years ago, a spirited campaign centered around gun violence and public safety would have been unthinkable. But today, gun violence prevention is an issue at the forefront of many voters’ minds. Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC will make sure voters are ready to support candidates who are prepared to reduce gun violence and improve gun safety this November.”

On Sunday, May 21st, Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC hosted the first-ever Virginia gubernatorial candidate forum focused exclusively on gun safety issues. The forum, which was attended by Virginia’s two Democratic gubernatorial candidates provided an opportunity for the candidates to share their views about addressing gun violence in Virginia and their plans to keep families safe.
