Giffords Endorses Tim Walz for Governor in Minnesota

The endorsement comes as part of the Giffords #VoteCourage Campaign to elect gun reform candidates nationwide

October 18, 2018 — Giffords, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Captain Mark Kelly, announced its endorsement of Tim Walz for Governor of Minnesota.

Minnesota deserves a governor who will stand up to the corporate special interests and tackle our country’s gun violence epidemic. That’s why it’s so important to elect Tim Walz as the next governor of Minnesota. He understands what it means to stand up for the second amendment while fighting to keep Minnesotan families safe. He will support life-saving policies like stronger background checks, gun violence restraining orders, and keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals.

Statement from former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, co-founder of Giffords:

“All across our country, students, young people, and everyday Americans are standing up to demand change. Gun violence is destroying families and communities, while the corporate gun lobby blocks life-saving solutions in Congress and in Minnesota. Tim Walz will take on the special interests and fight for things like stronger background checks and keeping guns out of the wrong hands. He is the right choice, and I proudly endorse him for governor.”

Giffords’ #VoteCourage campaign aims to elect gun safety advocates to Congress and defeat politicians who have historically worked against gun reform, or done nothing at all to prevent gun violence. The political program targets incumbents in mostly suburban districts and uses a mixture of TV and digital advertising, on-the-ground organizing, and a voter registration push to create momentum for meaningful progress on gun safety.
