Giffords Admonishes Wisconsin Legislature for Prematurely Ending Special Session on Gun Safety
November 8, 2019 — Giffords, the gun safety organization co-founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement after Republicans in the Wisconsin legislature adjourned a special session after only 30 seconds without considering any gun safety legislation.
Statement from Molly Voigt, state legislative manager at Giffords:
“All it took was 30 seconds for Wisconsin lawmakers to turn their backs on the people they represent. Shame on them. This was an opportunity to take action on a gun violence crisis that is hurting the state. Instead, Republicans refused to even consider policies that could save lives. Voters won’t forget what happened in the legislature today. They will have an opportunity to vote out gun lobby-backed politicians next year and elect gun safety champions who will take action to make Wisconsin communities safer from gun violence.”
