New Legislation Backed by Giffords will Hold Law Enforcement Accountable for Excessive Force And Brutality

Washington, DC —  The senseless murders of George Floyd,  Breonna Taylor, and countless others spurred Representative Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) to reintroduce legislation eliminating qualified immunity and providing accountability when public officials, including police officers, violate Americans’ constitutional rights.

Adzi Vokhiwa, Federal Affairs Director:

“Black and Brown Americans have suffered from over-policing which too often ends in under-protection. No where is this more apparent than when law enforcement officers get away with murder and brutality just because they have a badge. It’s time to end qualified immunity so we can truly hold police officers accountable.

“We appreciate Representative Pressley’s leadership tackling this issue and urge Congress to pass the Ending Qualified Immunity Act quickly. We will never have true justice as long as people tasked with upholding the law perpetrate violence with impunity.”
