Giffords Endorses Mark Herring for Attorney General in Virginia
Washington, DC — Giffords, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, announced its endorsement of Attorney General Mark Herring for reelection in Virginia.
“Since being elected in 2013, Mark Herring has been steadfast in his commitment to ending gun violence, and I’m proud to support him for a third term as attorney general,” said former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. “Attorney General Herring is a proven leader who has taken on the NRA, closed dangerous loopholes in our gun laws, and sponsored commonsense background checks legislation in the General Assembly. He will always be a champion in the fight to end gun violence, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside him.”
“I couldn’t be more proud to be endorsed by Giffords, a dynamic gun violence prevention organization that continues to lead the fight for safer communities across the country,” said Attorney General Mark Herring. “Given the senseless gun-related tragedies that we’ve endured in the Commonwealth, it is incumbent on all of us to fight for commonsense gun safety legislation that will keep our communities safe. I’m excited to see what we will accomplish together over the next four years.”
During the Attorney General’s time in office, the Virginia legislature has passed meaningful gun reform, including background checks on all gun sales, extreme risk protection orders, and mandates to report lost or stolen guns. Attorney General Herring has supported and defended these laws, stood up to the gun lobby, prosecuted gun runners, and called for stronger regulations of ghost guns.
Giffords endorsed Attorney General Herring in the primary and looks forward to continuing to work with him as attorney general to ensure Virginians are safe from gun violence.
