Giffords Applauds $100 Million in Grants Awarded to Community Violence Organizations
Washington DC — Today, the US Department of Justice announced which community organizations, cities, and counties across the country will be receiving $100 million in grants from the Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI). This funding is a combination of $50 million provided by Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations and $50 million provided by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
Paul Carrillo, Giffords Center for Violence Intervention Director:
“I have been working in community violence intervention since I was 21 years old, and have seen firsthand how effective these programs are. Community violence intervention programs meet people where they are, and they save lives. However, they have been traditionally left behind from federal funding. That’s now changed thanks to the work of Giffords and our partners, and the boost in funding from the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. I applaud the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs for making this critical investment to support these underserved communities. We look forward to unlocking more funding for community violence intervention programs throughout the country and supporting the people doing this difficult, lifesaving work on the ground.”
