Giffords Law Center Joins Amicus Brief to Prevent Gun Violence in Washington DC
Giffords Law Center filed the amicus brief with Brady, Team Enough, and March For Our Lives Action Fund
Washington DC — Giffords Law Center joined an amicus brief filed by Hogan Lovells with Brady, Team Enough, and March For Our Lives Action Fund in support of Washington DC’s ban of firearms on the Metro.
The brief was filed in Angelo v. District of Columbia, et al., in which plaintiffs are challenging the constitutionality of the District’s law prohibiting guns on the Metro and city buses in the wake of the US Supreme Court’s New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen decision.
Esther Sanchez-Gomez, Senior Litigation Attorney, Giffords Law Center:
“The Court’s radical Bruen decision is now leading to dangerous lawsuits that will lead to more guns in public and in places they never have been allowed before. To reverse firearm prohibitions on public transportation will undoubtedly lead to more violence and lives lost. Even under Bruen, cities and states may prohibit the carrying of firearms in sensitive places, like the Metro system. Everyone should be able to use public transit without the fear of gun violence.”
