GIFFORDS Stands with the Tennessee Three

Washington DC — Today GIFFORDS, the gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released a statement of support of the three Tennessee legislators who stood up for gun safety. Two of the lawmakers, Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson, were expelled by the Republican majority.

Sean Holihan, GIFFORDS State Legislative Director:

“In 2021 more than 1,500 Tennesseans were killed by gun violence, and last week we saw three children and three staff brutally murdered in a Nashville school. Reps. Justin Jones, Gloria Johnson, and Justin Pearson had the courage to say enough is enough and stood up for gun safety on the House floor. Instead of listening to them and heeding the calls of their constituents for action, the Republican majority expelled Reps. Jones and Pearson and tried to expel Rep. Johnson. It is clear that the will of the gun lobby is more important to the Republican majority than the lives of Tennessee’s children. We stand with Reps. Jones, Pearson, and Johnson and remain committed to fighting gun violence in Tennessee.”
