GIFFORDS Honors Victims of Highland Park Shooting

    Last updated .

Washington DC — Today, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of the gun violence prevention organization GIFFORDS, released a statement marking one year since the mass shooting on the Fourth of July in Highland Park, Illinois.

    Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:
“Last year a day of joy and celebration turned into a nightmare because of gun violence. Seven people lost their lives and hundreds more are forever changed and scarred by the trauma of gun violence. GIFFORDS stands with the Highland Park community and won’t stop fighting for safer gun laws in Illinois and the United States. We thank Governor Pritzker and Representative Bob Morgan for their courageous leadership and acting swiftly to pass an assault weapons ban in the state.”
