Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Remembers Victims of Anti-Semitic Shooting at Tree of Life Synagogue

Washington DC — Today, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of the gun safety organization GIFFORDS, honored the victims of the anti-Semitic shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh five years ago. A white supremacist, armed with semi-automatic weapons, entered the synagogue during morning services and killed 11 people and injured six more.

“Five years ago today, the Tree of Life Synagogue and the greater Pittsburgh community were forever changed. A white supremacist attacked a place meant for worship, safety, and belonging. My Jewish faith has always reinforced my belief that love triumphs over hate and light conquers darkness. These last five years, we’ve shown resilience in the face of adversity. We must honor the lives lost with meaningful action.”
