One Year after Mass Shooting at Club Q: Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Remembers Victims, Survivors

Washington DC — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of gun violence prevention group GIFFORDS, released the following statement honoring the victims and survivors of the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs one year ago today. A gunman entered Club Q, killing five people and injuring 19 more, at midnight on Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:

“Today, I’m thinking about the five beautiful dancing souls who were taken one year ago at Club Q in Colorado Springs. My heart is with their families, the survivors whose lives were forever changed, and the LGBTQ+ community that has been attacked too many times. Club Q should have been a safe space from hatred, discrimination, and violence, but it was shattered by senseless gun violence. We must do more to disarm hate and protect the LGBTQ+ community.”
