GIFFORDS: Senate Judiciary Republicans advance Kash Patel for FBI Director, endangering Americans

WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement after the Senate Judiciary Committee advanced Kash Patel’s nomination for director of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) along party lines.

“Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee advanced an inexperienced, inadequate and frankly dangerous choice to fill a position crucial to American public safety,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown. “Kash Patel has aligned himself with fringe groups and extremists who oppose basic gun safety measures to reduce crime, like running background checks before selling a gun. This is just one item of many—from his enemies list to his association with far-right figures—that should disqualify him for this position.

“GIFFORDS will continue fighting this foolish and dangerous nomination to ensure that commonsense gun safety policies aren’t allowed to backslide,” Brown concluded.
