For Representative Joe Neguse, ending gun violence is deeply personal. Representative Neguse’s home state of Colorado has repeatedly experienced the trauma and devastating loss caused by gun violence firsthand, including in Boulder, where a mass shooting in his own district took the lives of 10 innocent shoppers at a local grocery store in March 2021. As a result, Congressman Neguse has been committed to enacting meaningful gun violence prevention legislation in office to save lives and prevent future tragedies.
In Congress, Representative Neguse serves as a member of House Leadership and is responsible for uniting members of his caucus around key issues, like passing universal background check legislation and other measures to reduce crime as assistant Democratic leader. As a vice chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and as a member of the House Judiciary Committee, Representative Neguse has worked hand in hand with GIFFORDS to introduce legislation like the End Gun Violence Act, which would prohibit the sale of a firearm or ammunition to any person who has been convicted of a violent misdemeanor. In 2021, Representative Neguse also led the successful effort to urge the Biden administration to regulate concealable assault-style firearms, culminating in new rules promulgated by the Department of Justice and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)—and in 2022, he helped enact the first major gun safety legislation to be signed into law in nearly 30 years by voting to pass the landmark Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
With so much on the line in 2026, it’s clear that we need to send Representative Joe Neguse back to Washington DC to continue the important work of protecting our communities from harm in a renewed gun safety majority. In him, voters have a champion who will always put their safety first.
