State Representative Manny Rutinel is the proud son of an immigrant, working class single mother who had a dream of a better life for her children. Despite America’s promise of opportunity, he grew up on food stamps and filling out Medicaid forms to survive—and from a young age, Representative Rutinel not only understood the value of hard work, but dedicated himself to the cause of making life better for others. As an economist for the US Army Corps of Engineers, a first responder in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, an attorney who defended communities against large corporations breaking the law, and the elected voice of voters across Adams County in the Colorado State House, he’s proven his ability to put the safety of others first, fight for hardworking families and defend the rights and freedoms of every Coloradan.
At the state level, Representative Rutinel has heard too many tragic stories of gun violence. Like so many in this movement, he believes that no one should have to lose their lives or feel the pain of losing a loved one due to gun violence, and he’s taken direct action to sponsor legislation to keep dangerous weapons out of our school and restrict semiautomatic weapons and rapid-fire devices in Colorado. He’s also led efforts to improve collaboration between law enforcement agencies and help quickly identify firearms and generate leads for gun-related crimes by requiring each agency in Colorado to register with eTrace.
This fall, Colorado’s Eighth Congressional District will be a vital battleground race, and flipping this seat is crucial to rebuilding a gun safety majority in the US House. Republicans took the seat with less than a two-point margin in 2024, making it imperative that voters across this district mobilize like never before to send a true fighter to put their voices first in Washington DC—and that champion is Representative Manny Rutinel. With him leading the way on gun safety in Congress, a safer future for us all will be within reach.
