Throughout his career, Attorney General Aaron Ford has been undeterred in his fight to keep Nevada families safe from gun violence. From his time as a public school teacher and state legislator to his current role as Nevada’s attorney general, Attorney General Ford has consistently taken meaningful steps to strengthen public safety, stand up to the gun lobby, and protect communities across the Silver State. His commitment to service is deeply personal. Raised in a working class family and becoming a father at a young age, Attorney General Ford understands firsthand the struggles many Nevada families face and has spent his career fighting to ensure every community has the opportunity to thrive safely and securely.
Since becoming attorney general in 2019, Attorney General Ford has continued leading the charge to strengthen Nevada’s gun laws and crack down on dangerous weapons. He successfully defended Nevada’s ban on unserialized, untraceable ghost guns before the Nevada Supreme Court and blocked the return and sale of dangerous machine gun conversion devices in the state. Attorney General Ford has also opposed federal efforts that would make it easier to ship handguns through the mail, recognizing the serious risks these policies pose to public safety. In addition, he has supported expanding background checks, closing dangerous loopholes, and banning deadly accessories like bump stocks that make mass shootings even more catastrophic. In the aftermath of the devastating 2017 mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, he worked alongside state leaders and advocates to advance commonsense gun safety reforms that protect both communities and law enforcement officers. He understands that the consequences of inaction are measured in lives lost, and he has consistently fought for policies designed to prevent tragedy before it happens.
At a time when extremists and the corporate gun lobby are working to roll back lifesaving laws across the country, Nevada cannot afford to move backwards on public safety. Attorney General Aaron Ford has proven himself to be a steadfast advocate for stronger gun laws, safer communities, and a future where fewer families have to experience the pain of gun violence firsthand.
