In 2016, Congressman Adriano Espaillat made history as the first Dominican American and the first formerly undocumented immigrant to be elected to the United States Congress. In the years since, he’s been laser focused on holding special interests accountable, fighting for fairness, and getting results people can see in their neighborhoods in Uptown Manhattan and the northwest Bronx. His election marked a turning point for communities long shut out of the halls of power, and in Congress he’s consistently striven to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing his constituents, like tackling crime and curbing our nation’s epidemic of violence.

On Capitol Hill, Congressman Espaillat has been among our country’s foremost champions in the fight to save lives from senseless violence. Throughout his tenure, he’s led several critical measures focused on keeping our communities safe, including a resolution declaring gun violence a public health crisis and legislation to close loopholes that allows for the dissemination of dangerous untraceable ghost guns. Congressman Espaillat also co-sponsored the Empower Americans to Respond (HEAR) Act, which would ban the importation, sale, manufacturing, transfer and possession of gun silencers or suppressors. As chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressman Espaillat knows that it’s unacceptable that gun violence has had a disproportionately deadly impact on Latino communities across our country, and in Washington, he’s persistently worked to support meaningful, commonsense solutions to curb these statistics once and for all—solutions like expanding background checks to all gun sales, disarming domestic abusers, and more adequately funding critically important violence intervention programs.

This year, New Yorkers have a clear choice on their ballot, and it’s imperative they reelect one of the most committed advocates for progress in Congressman Adriano Espaillat.
