Andrea Rutkowski has dedicated her career to public service and made championing the needs of her neighbors her life’s mission. As a mother, president of her local school district’s parent teacher association, and the current president pro tempore of the Westland City Council, she’s consistently pushed to protect the next generation from deadly violence and advocated for lifesaving gun safety measures that will keep communities across eastern Michigan safe.
In the wake of the tragic shooting at Oxford High School, Rutkowski was part of the chorus of voices demanding action and accountability, and she pushed for Congress and the Michigan legislature to enact penalties for adults who knowingly let their children access dangerous weapons. While Rutkowski supports the Second Amendment rights of individuals who operate guns with care and safety, she knows that more needs to be done in Lansing to prevent the mass shootings and everyday violence plaguing cities and towns across Michigan. In office, she will fight to build on the progress made on this issue at the state level in 2023 and implement needed laws to keep deadly weapons off the streets, protect survivors of domestic violence, and provide needed resources to community-based violence intervention programs. With Andrea Rutkowski leading the charge, Michiganders in Westland, Wayne, Dearborn Heights, and Canton Township can rest easier knowing they have a champion who will always put their safety first.
