In Salem, Representative Andrea Salinas earned a reputation as an effective legislator who brought people together and got things done—and in just two years, she’s proven to be an equally impactful member of Congress by working with members of both parties to advance commonsense gun safety legislation.

For years, Representative Salinas has been focused on passing desperately needed legislation to reduce crime and senseless violence to ensure that Oregonians can live their lives free of the fear of being shot. In the state legislature, she played a key role in passing Oregon’s first gun safety legislation in years, which required the safe storage of firearms and prohibited the possession of guns in places like the Oregon Capitol and the Portland International Airport. In Washington DC, Representative Salinas has continued to fight to pass universal background checks into federal law, enact federal extreme risk laws, and crack down on the proliferation of ghost guns—all of which would keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous people who have histories of violence. She’s also been proud to sign onto legislation that would make it a crime to knowingly import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess a semiautomatic assault weapon or large-capacity ammunition feeding device. In office, Representative Salinas has also been an advocate for reducing police violence and holding the gun lobby accountable.
