Cait Conley is a proud fourth-generation Hudson Valley native who has answered the call to serve her country time and again. For 16 years, she worked as an active duty Army officer, deploying overseas six times in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. After returning home, she worked to protect and defend our security and democracy as the director of counterterrorism on the National Security Council and to keep our infrastructure secure at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Now, she’s answering the call to serve once more by running for Congress—and if elected, she’s determined to get real results for the American people once again by fighting to tackle some of the toughest issues facing our communities, like the scourge of gun violence.
As both a veteran and a gun owner, Conley understands the responsibility that comes with handling firearms. That’s why she supports commonsense gun safety measures like universal background checks and red flag laws that prevent guns from getting into the hands of dangerous criminals and individuals experiencing mental health crises. In office, Conley will also work to ban assault weapons like the ones she carried in combat that have no place on civilian streets, crack down on dangerous, untraceable ghost guns, and properly fund both important law enforcement entities as well as lifesaving suicide prevention and community violence intervention programs.
Next fall, New York’s Seventeenth District will likely be one of the closest races in the country, and flipping this seat is crucial to rebuilding a gun safety majority in the US House. With so much on the line, it’s imperative that voters across the Hudson Valley mobilize like never before to send a true fighter to put their voices first in Washington DC—and that champion is Cait Conley. With her leading the way on gun safety in Congress, we know that a safer future will finally be within reach.
