Attorney General Charity Clark is the daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter of small-town Vermont grocers, and she spent her early years stocking shelves and working the cash register at her family’s store. The values of hard work and determination she learned in those years helped guide her career in public service—first as a lawyer, then as assistant attorney general in the Public Protection Division, and later as chief of staff under former Vermont attorney general T.J. Donovan for four years. In 2022, Attorney General Clark took another step forward in service to her state and made history as the first woman elected to her position—and in the two years since, she’s proven herself to be a strong leader in the fight to save lives across her state.
Since she took office, Attorney General Clark has quickly gotten to work in her role of enforcing Vermont’s strong gun laws. As both a mother and a lawyer, she knows that gun laws are the first line of defense at protecting our children from harm. In office, she’s made passing safe storage legislation designed to keep guns out of the wrong hands a top priority, while also supporting the call to implement an assault weapons ban in Vermont. Having long been an advocate for domestic violence prevention measures, Attorney General Clark also led efforts to enact recommendations of the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Commission, which is housed in her office.
Gun laws across the country are under attack from the gun lobby and its extremist enablers, and it’s more important than ever that we have strong gun safety champions defending our progress. It’s imperative that Vermonters send Attorney General Charity Clark back to Montpelier this fall. With her in office, families across the Green Mountain State can rest easy knowing their attorney general will always put their safety first.
