The importance of giving back to your community was impressed on Senator Cory Booker early in life, and throughout his career, he’s consistently worked to uplift others and build a better future for all. As a tenant lawyer in the Central Ward and a member of the Newark City Council, Senator Booker led fights for transparency and efficiency—and in 2006, he took the helm as mayor of his city, where he made crime reduction a core pillar of his work to improve the lives of his constituents. Since 2013, Senator Booker has continued this work on Capitol Hill, where he’s been a leading voice on gun violence prevention and supported countless measures needed to keep our communities safe. This fall, it’s imperative that he’s reelected so he can continue to push for these desperately needed, lifesaving efforts to be passed into law.
In office, Senator Booker has fought tirelessly to ensure that the pain and devastation he’s seen inflicted on families across New Jersey—as well as the enormous costs incurred by communities impacted by gun violence—are not allowed to go unanswered. In his many years in the Senate, he’s championed commonsense gun safety measures like universal background checks, red flag laws, and bans on dangerous hardware like assault weapons and large-capacity magazines nationwide—all of which have already proven to be effective in New Jersey. He’s also voted to pass landmark legislation like the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and authored groundbreaking bills of his own aimed at keeping children and families in communities most impacted by gun violence safe, like the Break the Cycle of Violence Act. This important legislation would allocate $5 billion in grants to community-based, nonprofit organizations and eligible units of local government to create or support evidence-based and violence prevention programs.
With so much on the line next fall, it’s clear that we need our best fighters to remain on the front lines as we work to hold Donald Trump and Republicans accountable—and that starts with reelecting Cory Booker to the US Senate. We know that he’s battle-tested and never lets his community down, and with him continuing to lead the charge of gun safety in the United States Senate, we know that a safer future is within reach for every New Jerseyan.
