Throughout his career in public service, Mayor Daniel Biss has always striven to deliver pragmatic, progressive solutions on behalf of his community—from his time in Springfield as a member of both the Illinois House and Senate, to his current role as mayor of Evanston. As a father and longtime community leader, Mayor Biss knows that America’s epidemic of gun violence is a public health emergency and one of the most pressing issues impacting his constituents. If elected to Congress this fall, he’s determined to be part of a new generation of leaders that will be tireless in advocating for meaningful measures at the federal level that will keep our children and families safe.

For decades, Mayor Biss has built coalitions and brought people together to solve problems that have gone unaddressed for too long—and his record on public safety in particular is unparalleled. Under his leadership, Evanston has seen meaningful drops in its gun violence rates, stemming in large part from the local prevention efforts and community-based solutions that Mayor Biss has supported, including the city’s new safe storage requirements that he championed during his first term. In Washington DC, he’ll fight to enact similar policies to those that have proven successful in Illinois, including universal background checks, red flag laws, and a ban on the sale of assault weapons which have no place on civilian streets. Additionally, Mayor Biss will be a strong supporter of ending the gun industry’s unique legal immunity so that victims of gun violence can have their day in court.
