As a career social worker and counselor, Debra Gardner has always displayed a deep passion for helping others and advocating for those in need. Now she wants to use these skills to address public health crises like Virginia’s gun violence epidemic in office. Throughout her career, Gardner has held leadership roles in multiple state agencies, equipping her with a comprehensive understanding of government. She has also gained firsthand experience tackling the underlying issues that contribute to gun violence as a member of various boards, including the Commonwealth Domestic Violence Prevention Response and the Virginia Drug Treatment Court Advisory Committee. 

In Richmond, Gardner wants to use her wealth of expertise to pass legislation that will help fund and support evidence-based and community-focused programs aimed at reducing crime and fostering safer neighborhoods. If elected, she will also work to improve background checks across the Commonwealth, strengthen Virginia’s extreme risk law, ban assault weapons, and work to keep guns off government property and school campuses. With control of the House of Delegates on the line this November, voters must mobilize like never before to elect committed champions in the fight to save lives, like Debra Gardner.
