Denise Powell is a mom, small business owner, public school champion, and healthcare advocate who understands the importance of keeping communities safe. As a woman and a mother, Powell knows that everyone deserves to feel safe in their home and community. After President Trump’s election in 2016, she founded the organization Women Who Run Nebraska, which has supported hundreds of Nebraskans running for local office to guide aspiring leaders on their journey toward candidacy; provided support through building community, providing campaign resources, and removing barriers that hold women back; and elected progressive candidates who are ready to win and lead. 

Powell understands that gun violence has directly or indirectly touched most Americans and has taken steps to fight for their safety. Women Who Run Nebraska has worked with gun safety advocates to push for commonsense gun safety legislation at the state level, and we know she will take that fight to Congress. If elected, Powell will reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act to protect survivors of domestic violence and ensure perpetrators are held accountable, as well as save lives from gun violence by supporting universal background checks to ensure that criminal background checks are conducted on every gun transfer, red flag laws to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, and community violence intervention programs.

The race in Nebraska’s Second District is set to be one of the closest in the country next fall, and the choice facing voters across this district could not be clearer. Denise Powell will be committed to making this country safer and is the candidate we need leading the charge in this crucial moment. With so much on the line, it’s imperative that we flip this seat next November.
