Congressman Gabe Vasquez is a first-generation American who grew up in the borderlands and has always worked hard to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Throughout his career—from his time as executive director of the Las Cruces Hispano Chamber of Commerce and as a policy advocate promoting child welfare and family well-being at the federal level, to his tenure on the Las Cruces City Council, and now in Congress—he’s put the needs of his community first and fought to tackle some of the toughest issues facing New Mexicans, including our epidemic of gun violence. 

As a sportsman and a responsible gun owner himself, Congressman Vasquez deeply respects the Second Amendment, but he knows that we can still work to save lives without infringing on anyone’s constitutional rights. In Washington DC, he has consistently reached across the aisle to put public safety over partisan politics and has proudly supported numerous important gun safety measures to expand background checks, incentivize gun owners to safely store their firearms, and ban the deadly assault weapons that have been used in far too many devastating shootings across the country. Congressman Vasquez has also called on social media companies to take immediate steps to stop the sale of illegal firearms, curb youth violence, and protect the safety of children and families in New Mexico and across the country. 

With so much on the line next fall, it’s imperative that voters reelect officials who bring unique perspectives to the issue of gun safety and can bring people together to get the job done—like Congressman Gabe Vasquez. Our children deserve better, and New Mexicans have a chance this fall to send a committed champion back to Capitol Hill. With him continuing to lead the way on this issue, we know that real progress is possible.
