As an officer in the US Navy, an education nonprofit leader, a congressman, and under secretary of defense, Representative Gil Cisneros has dedicated his life to service, taking action, and getting results.

Like so many in this movement, Representative Cisneros knows the pain that gun violence can inflict on a family—he lost his maternal grandfather in a grocery store robbery that resulted in a shooting. In office, Representative Cisneros has worked to turn his personal pain into action and made gun violence prevention one of his signature issues. He has always been a staunch supporter of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act and proudly voted to authorize the first federal funding to study gun violence in decades during his first term. 

As part of one of the most active gun safety majorities in recent history, from 2019 to 2021,  Representative Cisneros fought to pass the Enhanced Background Checks Act. This would give law enforcement more time to complete background checks so dangerous weapons don’t fall into the hands of those seeking to hurt themselves or others, or those who are legally barred from possessing them. Representative Cisneros also championed numerous bills to address the boyfriend loophole and other measures to disarm domestic abusers and adequately fund important community violence intervention programs doing the hard work to stop cycles of violence across the country.

With so much on the line in 2026, it’s imperative voters continue to send champions with real lived experience to Capitol Hill to advocate for meaningful solutions to curb our nation’s epidemic of gun violence—starting with reelecting Congressman Gil Cisneros. With him continuing to lead the way in a new gun safety majority, we know that real progress in the fight to save lives will be possible.
