Candidate
Jack Reed
US Senate
Rhode Island
Democrat
Incumbent2026
Senator Jack Reed first learned the importance of service from his parents, who instilled in him the value of giving back to his community and country. It’s this mission to make life better for others that has guided his path—from his time commanding his fellow soldiers as an Army infantry platoon leader, a company commander, and a battalion staff officer in the 82nd Airborne Division to his work as a lawyer, and later as a state legislator, member of Congress, and as a United States senator. In every role, Senator Reed has defended the most vulnerable among us from the issues that have the most direct impact on their lives—including America’s epidemic of gun violence.
Since Rhode Islanders sent him to Washington DC, Senator Reed has actively and consistently backed lifesaving commonsense gun safety legislation. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he proved himself as one of the earliest gun safety champions in the Senate and took great personal pride in spearheading some of the first efforts to push back on the NRA’s attempts to pass gun manufacturer immunity measures. In the years since, he’s also voted to pass landmark legislation like the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which became the first major gun safety bill to be signed into law in nearly 30 years. In 2025, he also led the effort to secure crucial Republican support to extend the Undetectable Firearms Act and ensure that every gun contains enough metal to trigger a metal detector or similar scanning device. As an Army veteran, Senator Reed knows the power of firearms, and after Rhode Island suffered two significant mass casualty events in recent months—including the shootings at Brown University and a Pawtucket ice rink—he is determined to get dangerous hardware out of the hands of criminals and those that pose a danger to innocent community members.
In the face of so many reckless attempts by the Trump administration to roll back gun safety laws and make America less safe, it’s clear that we must retake the Senate in 2026—and that effort starts with ensuring that some of our strongest gun safety champions, like Senator Jack Reed, are reelected this fall. With him continuing to push to hold bad actors and the gun industry accountable, we know a safer future will be within reach for children and families across the Ocean State.
