Throughout her career, Senator Jacky Rosen has always made helping others a top priority. For Senator Rosen, that includes working with members of both parties to tackle the complex issues facing her state’s children and families—including Nevada’s epidemic of gun violence.
The fight for gun safety is personal for Senator Rosen and residents of her state. Just a few months into her first term in the US House, Nevada became the site of the worst mass shooting in American history when a gunman opened fire at the Route 91 Music Festival in Las Vegas, killing 60 people and injuring hundreds more. In the wake of this unfathomable tragedy, Senator Rosen took immediate action to introduce and support commonsense measures that would prevent future shootings, including legislation to ban the sale of large capacity magazines, bump stocks, and deadly assault weapons.
In 2018, Senator Rosen took her fight for safer communities to the next level: running for the United States Senate and flipping a red state blue in the process. In office, she’s continued to be a determined leader in the fight to expand background checks to all gun sales and keep firearms out of the hands of those who seek to harm themselves or others. She knows that these lifesaving policies do not infringe on the rights of responsible gun owners—they are simply designed to bolster public safety and keep the communities she represents safe from harm. In 2022, Senator Rosen took additional action to reduce gun violence by joining colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass the first major gun safety legislation in nearly 30 years—the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. This landmark bill made gun trafficking and straw purchasing federal crimes, disarmed domestic abusers, provided funding to states to implement extreme risk protection order laws, and marked the largest investment in community violence intervention programs in American history.
In 2024, Nevada will be a crucial battleground, and we know the gun lobby will pour everything it has into flipping this state and rolling back progress. We cannot let them win—we must reelect Jacky Rosen to a second term. In her, we have a battleborn champion who won’t quit until every child can grow up in a world free from senseless violence.
