Former Delegate Jay Jones has worn many hats throughout his career. He’s served in the Virginia General Assembly, worked as an assistant attorney general in the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, and practiced law as an accomplished litigator—but he’s also the father of two boys, and he knows we cannot not accept the epidemic of gun violence we’ve allowed to become the number one killer of children in our country. 

As Virginia’s next attorney general, Delegate Jones will be laser focused on fighting to bring down rates of crime and violence from Norfolk to Northern Virginia, while also standing up against corrupt special interests like the gun lobby and their enablers who are bent on taking the commonwealth backwards. If elected, he’ll work to boost state grant money to local law enforcement and prosecutorial offices to target illegal guns on the street, crack down on unscrupulous gun dealers who are not following the law, and increase the resources for proven violence interruption strategies. We know he’s the right person to get the job done because we’ve seen him bolster Virginia’s gun laws before: In the legislature, Delegate Jones helped expand background checks across the commonwealth and pass a landmark red flag law that has already proven successful at saving lives by getting guns out of the hands of those who pose threats to themselves or others.

Now more than ever, we need to bring about real change in Richmond. For the last four years, incumbent Attorney General Jason Miyares has been nothing but a rubber stamp for Donald Trump and Glenn Youngkin’s reckless agenda, and he’s put lives at risk time and time again. It’s imperative that voters across Virginia mobilize like never before to send Delegate Jay Jones to take his place this fall. With him in charge, we know that Virginians will have an advocate on their side in office and in court who will always put their safety above all else.
