Senator Jeff Merkley has spent his career fighting to deliver for ordinary Oregonians so that everyone, no matter what they look like or where they come from, has the kinds of chances we all deserve. From taking on special interests who put profits over people to investing in the needs of families and communities, he’s determined to create a better future, fairer for the next generation. A major part of that work is to take on the senseless gun violence that has changed the lives of too many people across the Beaver State.

Throughout his decades in elected office, Senator Merkley has proven himself to be a dependable partner in the fight to save lives and a strong advocate of commonsense gun violence policies. His time in the Senate has been spent fighting for lifesaving gun safety measures that are proven to keep our communities safe and reduce crime, from his work protecting victims of domestic violence to his insistence that irresponsible gun industry members be held accountable. On Capitol Hill, Senator Merkley has cosponsored important legislation to expand background checks, ban assault weapons, and strengthen safe storage measures—while also championing legislation to overturn the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which blocks victims from holding negligent gun companies responsible for their actions. Senator Merkley has worked to keep guns out of the hands of those convicted of hate crimes, and proudly supported the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the most significant federal gun safety legislation in 30 years.

This fall, Oregon voters from Salem to Portland and everywhere in between must mobilize like never before to send Senator Merkley back to Washington DC as part of a renewed gun safety majority. With him continuing to lead the way on this issue on Capitol Hill for another six years, we know the safer future our children deserve will finally be within reach.
