As a state senator, attorney, and the mother of two school-age children, Jen Jordan knows that it is past time for elected officials to reduce crime and strengthen our weak gun laws. Jordan knows Georgia well, having grown up in rural Dodge County, and she was first motivated to become an attorney by the hope that she could represent working families and hold those in power accountable for their actions. In 2017, she made history by flipping a crucial Georgia Senate seat blue in a highly contested special election in metro Atlanta, and now, Jordan is running for attorney general to continue her work as a fighter for Georgia families. If elected, she hopes to put a particular emphasis on cracking down on the illegal gun trade, protecting fundamental rights, and keeping communities safe from violence.
As a legislator, Jordan made supporting women and children a key priority. Working closely with law enforcement and local prosecutors, she authored bipartisan legislation to prohibit individuals convicted of domestic abuse, or who were subject to temporary protective orders, from owning or possessing firearms. She also cosponsored legislation that would require Georgians to undergo training before being able to receive a firearms license, and has supported bills to require background checks on all gun transfers and purchases. In 2020, Jordan proudly voted for Georgia’s hate crime prevention legislation, which was signed into law following the racially motivated killing of Ahmaud Arbery. This year, she’s been a vocal opponent of Georgia’s dangerous permitless carry legislation, which enables most individuals to carry concealed weapons without a permit—putting the general public at an increased risk for harm.
With so much on the line this fall, we must ensure that Jordan becomes Georgia’s next attorney general. In 2020 and 2021, voters proved that gun safety champions can win statewide in Georgia. We must ensure this happens again in November and send Jen Jordan to Atlanta, where we know she will help build a safer state for Georgia’s children.
