Candidate
Jennifer McClellan
US House
Virginia
— 4th District Democrat
Incumbent2026
As the mother of two school-age kids, Representative Jennifer McClellan understands that those in power need to act with conviction and urgency to protect our children from the dangers of gun violence. Having seen the devastating impacts of too many senseless shootings across the commonwealth, she supports enacting comprehensive gun reforms to make communities safer for every Virginian.
For Representative McClellan, all of Virginia’s gun deaths—more than 1,100 a year—are preventable. As a state legislator, she led the fight in the Virginia Senate to pass a bill that requires the reporting of lost or stolen firearms in 2020. In her nearly two decades in Richmond, she consistently took on the gun lobby’s dangerous practices and cosponsored laws to reinstate Virginia’s “one-gun-a-month” rule and to implement universal background checks across the commonwealth. Representative McClellan also cosponsored legislation to allow localities to prohibit guns in certain public spaces and led a senate bill to establish a Center for Firearm Violence Intervention and Prevention to collect data and publish reports on violence caused by firearms.
In Congress, Representative McClellan is a proud member of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, and as the parliamentarian of the Congressional Black Caucus she led members in a special order hour to address the harm gun violence has caused on the Black community and the need to enact policy solutions to address them. She has also cosponsored several pieces of legislation to reduce gun violence, including bills to implement universal background checks, require safe gun storage, establish a legal pathway for states to adopt red flag laws, and close various existing loopholes that undermine public safety.
In Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, Virginians have a true champion who will always put safety first. We must ensure she remains in Congress in 2027, where we know she’ll never stop fighting to strengthen our nation’s gun laws and keep communities safe from violence. With so much on the line this fall, it’s imperative that votes mobilize to reelect such a committed champion this November.
