Representative Jennifer Wexton has consistently fought for commonsense legislation to keep our communities safe while respecting the rights of responsible gun owners. In the Virginia State Senate, Congresswoman Wexton supported numerous bills to establish universal background checks, close her state’s gun show loophole, ban bump stocks, mandate the reporting of lost and stolen firearms, and keep guns out of the hands of individuals who have committed domestic abuse and stalking. She also fought against legislation that would loosen restrictions on who can obtain concealed carry permits.
 
After flipping a red district blue in 2018, Representative Wexton brought this same passion for progress to Congress, where she has continued to support legislation to expand mandatory background checks on gun purchases, close loopholes that allow individuals convicted of crimes to purchase firearms, establish a ban on the sale of high-capacity magazines, and study gun violence as a public health issue. In response to the tragic 2019 mass shooting in Virginia Beach, Congresswoman Wexton introduced the Empowering Law Enforcement for Safer Firearm Transfers Act, which would enable law enforcement to block the sale or transfer of any weapon regulated under the National Firearms Act, including silencers—an accessory used in the Virginia Beach shooting. She also introduced the Gun Violence Prevention Through Financial Intelligence Act in order to identify and report suspicious or illegal financial activity related to firearms.
 
In 2018, Congresswoman Wexton’s race was one of Giffords PAC’s top priorities, and 2022 will be no different. With our gun safety majority on the line in the House, it is of the utmost importance that we send leaders like Representative Jennifer Wexton back to Congress this fall. We know that she has the courage to act to end gun violence, and that she’ll never cave to the corrupt influences of the gun lobby.
