Representative Jimmy Gomez has roots as an organizer and an educator, and he’s committed to helping lead a new generation of gun safety champions in Congress. As a father, he knows that it’s unconscionable that our children are growing up in a nation where gun violence is now the top cause of death for kids, and in office he’s taken lifesaving steps to end our epidemic of violence once and for all.

In Washington DC, Representative Gomez has always put the safety and well-being of Californians first. Throughout his tenure, he’s fought to advance numerous gun violence prevention bills that Republicans have blocked at every turn—even signing discharge petitions to force a vote on crucial legislation to ban assault weapons, expand background checks to every firearm sale, require gun owners to safely store their weapons and ban the sale of large capacity ammunition feeding devices. In the 118th Congress, Representative Gomez also founded the first-ever Gun Violence Prevention Working Group as part of the Congressional Dads Caucus in order to rally parents in Congress around progress on gun safety. In 2022, he joined colleagues from both parties to pass the landmark Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and later worked to introduce legislation to establish the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, which President Biden and Vice President Harris established in September 2023.

This fall, we need to take back control of the US House and reestablish a gun safety majority that will take needed action to save lives across the country—and that starts with sending committed champions like Representative Jimmy Gomez back to Capitol Hill.
