After three decades as a public school science teacher, Congressman John Mannion was tired of seeing things move the wrong direction for our children—especially as his students had to deal with the daily fear of gun violence. As a member of the New York Senate, he focused on getting things done and bringing people together across partisan divides to deliver results for Central New York and the Mohawk Valley. Now, he’s doing the same in Congress.

Throughout his career, Congressman Mannion has been consistently supportive of strong, commonsense gun safety measures. In Albany, he championed and voted in favor of bills to prohibit the possession of ghost guns by anyone other than a licensed gunsmith and prohibit the sale of ghost guns entirely, restrict the ability for individuals to carry concealed weapons, and expand background check requirements. In Washington D.C., he’s continued this important work by supporting federal legislation to adequately fund community violence intervention programs, incentive safe storage, disarm domestic abusers, and ensure that Americans are protected by red flag laws that allow law enforcement and family members the opportunity to disarm individuals who may pose a threat to themselves or others. As a member of the Education and Workforce Committee, he’s even pushed to hold a full committee hearing on school shootings and safety in American schools in order to inform legislation to prevent gun violence.

Next fall, a future gun safety House majority will once again run through New York and voters across the state must send principled champions like John Mannion back to Washington to fight for lifesaving reforms that are designed to save lives. With him continuing to help lead the way in Congress, we know a safer future is within reach.
