After three decades as a public school science teacher, State Senator John Mannion was tired of seeing things move the wrong direction for our children—especially as his students had to deal with the daily fear of gun violence. In office, he’s been focused on getting things done for them and bringing people together in both parties to deliver results for Central New York and the Mohawk Valley.

Throughout his career, Senator Mannion has been consistently supportive of strong, commonsense gun safety measures. In Albany, he’s championed and voted in favor of bills to prohibit the possession of ghost guns by anyone other than a licensed gunsmith and prohibit the sale of ghost guns entirely, restrict the ability for individuals to carry concealed weapons, and expand background check requirements. If elected to Congress, he’ll continue this important work by supporting federal legislation to adequately fund community violence intervention programs, incentive safe storage, disarm domestic abusers, and ensure that Americans are protected by red flag laws that allow law enforcement and family members the opportunity to disarm individuals who may pose a threat to themselves or others.

This fall, a future gun safety House majority will run through New York and voters across the state must send principled champions like John Mannion to fight for lifesaving reforms in Washington DC. With him helping to lead the way in Congress, we know a safer future is within reach.
