Jonathan Jackson has fought relentlessly for social, economic, and racial justice for his entire career. As a lifelong Chicagoan, his next step in this fight is logical—to serve the people of Illinois’s 1st Congressional District and improve the quality of life in his community for all. He supports new and innovative approaches to reducing crime and will always work tirelessly to protect his constituents from senseless violence.

As a community leader, Jackson has gathered with shooting victims and their families in unity and prayer too many times, and he knows that a safer future will only be possible if politicians find the courage to act on this life or death issue. In Congress, he will work to develop interventions, programs, and policies that would both prevent firearm related injuries and address the recurring trauma faced by victims and families in the wake of deadly incidents. Jackson supports implementing background checks on all gun sales and a ban on assault weapons. He knows that when people who seek to hurt themselves or others have the same weaponry as law enforcement, everyone is at a higher risk for harm—and he’ll always fight to make Illinois’ streets safer.

In Congress, Jackson will continue to be the champion that the people of Chicago have always known him to be. He will fight with every ounce of his being to address the scourges of gun trafficking and everyday community violence throughout northeastern Illinois.
