Attorney General Josh Kaul has always been a determined leader in the fight to bolster public safety. Prior to his time serving the people of Wisconsin as attorney general, Attorney General Kaul got his start working as a federal prosecutor in Baltimore—where he first saw the devastating impacts of gun violence up close. In 2018, fueled by a desire to make a positive change in his state and to protect future generations from harm, he made history as the only challenger in the country to defeat an incumbent attorney general. Since then, Attorney General Kaul has consistently put the people of Wisconsin first and diligently worked to enact lifesaving policies designed to combat America’s epidemic of gun violence.
Attorney General Kaul understands that effectively fighting crime requires a comprehensive approach. He understands that keeping guns out of the hands of felons and others who’ve been shown to be dangerous is a top priority, and he has called for the passage of legislation to expand background checks. Attorney General Kaul is a passionate advocate for enacting extreme risk protection order laws in Wisconsin, and he has also supported a prohibition on the manufacture of ghost guns. In office, he has called for an increase in the felony classification for repeat straw purchase and felon-in-possession cases, knowing that these policies would decrease the likelihood that dangerous people could acquire a firearm in his state.
Gun crimes are skyrocketing across the country, and the people of Wisconsin cannot risk losing a leader like Attorney General Kaul in November. In 2018, he won by less than one percentage point in one of the closest races of the cycle, and this year’s election looks to be just as tight. We know that Attorney General Josh Kaul will always fight for the gun safety reforms needed to ensure that every Wisconsinite can live their lives free from the constant fear of gun violence, and we look forward to all the work he will do to keep communities safe if reelected.
