Josh Riley is a fifth-generation Upstate New York resident who is dedicated to protecting and serving the people of New York’s Nineteenth Congressional District. Throughout his career, he has fought to bolster public safety and worked hard to make sure that everyone in his community has an opportunity to succeed.
Riley has a long track record of working to end senseless gun violence, stemming from his time as counsel for the US Senate Judiciary Committee. In that role, he helped to lead efforts to respond to the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Riley has also helped to craft commonsense legislation to keep communities safe and prevent future mass tragedies, and has submitted bipartisan briefs to the United States Supreme Court arguing that people convicted of domestic violence shouldn’t have access to firearms. As a member of Congress, he will continue this important work by supporting lifesaving legislation that would improve the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), fund needed research into the root causes of gun violence, keep weapons of war and large-capacity magazines off the streets, and ensure that firearms are not put in the hands of people who are a danger to themselves or others.
New Yorkers know better than most that our weak federal gun laws pose a real danger to their state. They deserve a champion in Washington DC who will fight to protect the lives of children across the Empire State. Voters in the Nineteenth District have a real chance to win back this crucial swing seat in November and reestablish a gun safety majority in the House—and they must do everything in their power to ensure that Josh Riley is their voice on Capitol Hill come 2025. With him in office, we know that real progress in the fight to end gun violence is possible.
