Mayor Joyce Craig is running for governor to strengthen communities across New Hampshire and create opportunities for everyone to succeed. It’s something she’s done in every role throughout her career, from her time as a school board member to her tenure as alderman, and in the three terms she’s led the city of Manchester. At every stage, Mayor Craig has taken on tough fights and developed a proven record of delivering results on some of the toughest issues facing Granite Staters—including senseless gun violence.
Mayor Craig recognizes that New Hampshire has some of the weakest gun laws in the entire country and is committed to making a difference if elected. She knows that measures like universal background checks, extreme risk protection orders, and laws aimed at preventing domestic abusers from acquiring weapons are desperately needed, will save lives, and are imperative to safeguarding families from Nashua to Portsmouth. As mayor, Mayor Craig worked with law enforcement to reduce gun violence in Manchester and implement the city’s first gun violence reduction strategy, which took a community-centered approach to identifying, analyzing, and developing evidence based responses to the gun violence public safety issue in the community. After one year, crimes committed with guns in Mayor Craig’s city were down 32%, and gunfire incidents were down 52%. In Concord, Mayor Craig will take these efforts statewide by pushing for additional meaningful solutions like banning untraceable ghost guns, preventing those who perpetuate hate crimes from obtaining firearms, and strengthening safe storage requirements.
This November, New Hampshire residents have a clear choice—elect a strong gun safety champion like Mayor Joyce Craig who will move their state forward, or take a major step back by sending a career politician in the pocket of the gun lobby like her opponent to the governor’s mansion. It’s imperative that voters mobilize like never before to help get Mayor Joyce Craig across the finish line in what will be the closest gubernatorial election this fall. With her helping lead the way in the fight to end gun violence, we know real progress is possible.
