Kathy Hochul

Governor New York Democrat
Incumbent2026
For Governor Kathy Hochul, helping others and giving back to the people of New York has been a constant throughout her career. Growing up, she watched her parents exemplify courage and take risks as they worked hard to provide a better life for their family—which inspired a fighting spirit in their daughter that has fueled her historic career. As an attorney, congresswoman, lieutenant governor, and now as the first female chief executive of New York, Governor Hochul has never tired from her work to improve the lives of others, ensure that everyone has a seat at the table, and build a better future for the next generation. In every role, she has worked to tackle the most pressing issues facing our children and families, including our nation’s epidemic of gun violence—and she’s not stopping now.

Since taking office, Governor Hochul has enacted landmark legislation to curb senseless gun violence and fight crime. Early in her tenure, Governor Hochul signed legislation to ban unregulated ghost guns and convened public officials from nine states to prohibit illegal gun trafficking in the Northeast. In the wake of a horrific mass shooting in her hometown of Buffalo, Governor Hochul also took immediate action—working hand in hand with our founder Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and state legislators to pass and sign into law a package of gun violence prevention policies that expanded New York’s red flag law, strengthened gun reporting protocols, closed regulatory loopholes, and raised the legal age to buy semiautomatic rifles to 21 years old. When the Supreme Court overturned a New York gun safety law that had been on the books for more than 100 years, Governor Hochul responded with renewed, reasonable restrictions on concealed carry permits, such as expanding eligibility requirements in the permitting process, allowing the state to regulate and standardize required training courses for license applicants, and restricting the carrying of concealed weapons in sensitive locations.

Since taking office, Governor Hochul has invested more than $3 billion in public safety and the resulting success of this work has been clear: Statewide shootings with injuries are down 60% and shootings in 2025 reached a new low. Because of her leadership, over 10,000 illegal guns were taken off of New York streets. While this progress is inspiring, Governor Kathy Hochul knows there is still so much more to do in the years ahead. With so much at stake in 2026, it’s clear that voters must reelect her in November so she can continue to bend the arc of progress in the Empire State and create a safer future for all.

We are proud to endorse Kathy Hochul for governor of New York.
