Katy Padilla Stout has dedicated her life to fighting for children, families, and communities across South and West Texas. A lifelong Texan, attorney, former public school teacher, and mother of four, Katy understands firsthand the challenges working families face. Raised by a single mother and rooted in a family of migrant farmworkers, she learned early the values of hard work, perseverance, and service to others. Those experiences inspired her career as an educator and later as an attorney focused on child welfare and education law, where she has spent years advocating for vulnerable children and families facing some of life’s most difficult circumstances. Now, Katy is running for Congress to ensure that every family in Texas has a champion who will put integrity, compassion, and commonsense solutions ahead of politics.

Throughout her career, Katy has seen the devastating impact gun violence can have on families and communities. As an attorney working in child welfare and family law, she has frequently encountered situations where firearms were present in homes experiencing domestic violence, abuse, or crisis. She understands the challenges of protecting children while navigating laws designed to keep families safe, and she has worked to ensure that dangerous situations are addressed before tragedy strikes. As a mother, Katy knows the fear too many parents carry when they drop their children off at school each day, wondering whether they will return home safely. She believes we can respect the constitutional rights of responsible gun owners while also advancing commonsense measures that save lives, including universal background checks, red flag laws, safe firearm storage, and stronger protections for survivors of domestic violence. She also recognizes the importance of expanding access to mental health care and crisis intervention programs as part of a comprehensive approach to reducing gun violence.

The race in the Twenty-Third Congressional District in Texas will be one of the most consequential contests in the country next fall. Voters deserve a representative focused on solving problems and strengthening opportunities for families—not someone who promotes dangerous extremism and puts ideology ahead of public safety. Katy has spent her career standing up for children, supporting families in crisis, and working to strengthen the communities she calls home. With so much at stake, Texas needs a leader who understands both the challenges families face and the solutions needed to address them.
